Car Insurance is something that is mandatory for all drivers on the open road. It protects against minor bumps to major accidents, and to compensation claims for personal injuries caused.
Mind you, there are people who drive without it and hope that nothing happens to them!
It is always amazing how much more expensive car insurance is in Northern Ireland, as opposed to those who live on the UK mainland. Northern Ireland is a relatively small place in comparison to the mainland so who knows why the prices are so high!
When getting a quote for insurance one can use the yellow pages and scan down the brokers and insurance companies for contact numbers. Can be quite annoying though when you get through to certain insurance companies, go through the whole palaver of car
registration details, your details etc., etc., etc., then when they get your postcode they suddenly say “sorry, we cant quote for insurance in Northern Ireland” – so why do they advertise in the Northern Ireland issue of the yellow pages!
Car insurance can be incredibly expensive for people aged between 18 and 25 – then suddenly it becomes a lot more manageable. Does that mean we all become sensible and safe drivers after that age? And, are we all boy-racers in the 18 – 25 year bracket?
Most Insurance Companies will offer a monthly payment system by Bank direct debit that can lessen the load and pain of paying off a yearly insurance premium. After the first year of a new policy there is a system of point gathering which means you start to collect your “no claims” – (unless you have accidents every year!). A no-claims bonus is a reward given to drivers who have not made a claim on their car insurance during their policy period, which is usually for one year. This no-claims bonus is then translated into a saving on the following years premium as a reward for not making a claim. Each year that the driver does not make a claim they are then rewarded with another years no-claims bonus which when added up can relate to saving money when taking out yearly car insurance premiums.
This no-claims bonus can be protected by your Insurance Company and that means if you do have an accident your bonus is protected.
As you get older you will find your yearly insurance premiums will lessen in price.
