Northern Ireland has experienced one of the biggest rises in car insurance with the typical premium now standing at £600 for fully comprehensive insurance.

The biggest rise felt by 41-55 year old’s due to the tendency for them to put children on their policies.  Women were badly hit by the increases, with female drivers between 41 – 55 facing a 14% penalty for having named drivers

Simon Lamble, Confused.com product director, advised “This is a massive blow for motorists who have already suffered at the hands of petrol price hikes and insurance premium tax increases.”

Across the United Kingdom, the average cost of fully comprehensive car insurance rose around 14.2% in the last 3 months.  The average premium increase by around £74 with an annual increases of 31%.

With price comparison sites stirring competition, it has forced insurers to repeatedly slash their prices, meaning that their profit has suffered

This trend may be coming to an end with Zurich announcing that they were going to raise prices by up to 20%.  It is also expected the rest of the insurance industry will do the same as they aim to make more profit.

Almost all car insurance companies have an online quote facility that can present users with information about how much their premium will cost so its best to shop around.

Buying car insurance in Northern Ireland is sometimes difficult because we have fewer insurers to choose from.  But there are still good deals out there if you shop around.
