Car Insurance-Northern Ireland has just found out that a new scheme is being piloted in Northern Ireland.  This new scheme will monitor the behavior of drivers in a hope that it will help determine the overall cost of an insurance policy.

The information will be monitored and transmitted from a piece of hardware that would be fitted to the vehicle and record the data to assess how it is being driven.

The scheme is quite similar to other schemes which have been running in the United States for quite a while and has recently been tested in other parts of Europe.

Caroline Currie, sales director at Autoline, said: “With this scheme, drivers will no longer have to endure the current broad brush approach to insurance rating, as premiums will be based on individual driving skills.”

Premiums are on the rise and from from December 2012 gender will no longer be a consideration thanks to a recent European Court of Justice ruling.  This is expected to add to the already increasing cost of Northern Ireland car insurance.

The data recorder that will be fitted to the vehicles is capable of recording driving habits and can tell where the vehicle is being driven throughout the country.

Autoline is the “driving force” behind the scheme in Northern Ireland.  It has been negotiating with a number of insurers and It is liaising with the local government to advise them of the positive  impact the new scheme could have for vehicle owners in Northern Ireland.

Autoline is aiming to launch the Insurance scheme later in 2011 and it it hoped that they will be able to give the best drivers in Northern Ireland, the best insurance deals.
